BREADS ON OAK
Breads on Oak is approximately a mile from the uptown Tulane University campus and promises reliable wifi and good food. Breads on Oak is a vegan bakery and will sell things like vegan king cake (during the Mardi Gras season), vegan bread (the “vegan” characterization is superfluous — bread is inherently vegan because it’s just flour and water), vegan sandwiches… but you wouldn’t know it’s a vegan place unless I told you. The bakery doesn’t strongly promote itself as an exclusively vegan bakery/coffee shop, and that’s just as well because some people have preconceived notions on what vegan food is (dishes that are always lacking in taste). Breads on Oak is a celebrated bakery in New Orleans and in my humble opinion, the best sourdough bread rivaling Le Boulangerie on Magazine.
Breads on Oak is a vegan bakery without the militant attitude — they seem to have a menu that is accidentally vegan, although, aren’t most bread bakeries? Open 7:30am-3pm, this is a good spot if you want to leisurely enjoy your baked good or coffee drink — there are tables and sofas in the back area, an outdoor patio, and wooden benches at the entrance. It’s a good place if you want to accidentally linger for an entire morning :)
